Delaware State Police Professional Licensing Standards

This is a  guide of the licensing procedure for the following:

Red Card - Armed Security

Yellow Card - Unarmed Security

*NOTE: This is a summary of the process which is taken directly from the Delaware State Police Professional Licensing page.  This is NOT Arclight Protective Services process. This process is required by Delaware law to operate as a Security Professional in Delaware.

Training

Applicants must complete a mandatory security guard training program. Options for this course can be found at https://dsp.delaware.gov/security-guards/

Testing

After successfully completing the required Security Guard Training Course, applicants may take the Security Guard Exam at any of the three Delaware Technical Community College locations in Delaware. A minimum passing score of 75% is required to proceed with the next steps. Use the links below to find testing dates and times for each location.

Fingerprinting/Photo ID - Background

Applicants must schedule their fingerprints through IdentoGO using the link and code below. Note: IdentoGO will not be the ones receiving the Application and Exam certifications.

Once all steps are completed use the following email to submit the documents listed below to complete the application process for the Unarmed Security Guard "Yellow Card"

  • Security Guard Application

  • Security Guard Exam Certification (DTCC Certification)

Use the Subject line: Last name, First name-Security Guard Application (for example – Smith, John-Security Guard Application)

If you are applying for your Firearms (Red Card) for the first time, you may do so alongside your Yellow Card application, provided you have met all firearms training requirements. Submit your Firearms Certification Form—issued by a Certified Firearms Instructor recognized by the DSP Professional Licensing Section—along with the required documents.

Email Application to Delaware State Police Professional Licensing Section

Once DSP Professional Licensing receives the IdentoGO results and processes all required documents, they will issue either an approval or denial of the application. If approved, you will receive an electronic notification via the email provided in your application. This notification can serve as a valid ID for 15 days, allowing you to begin employment as an Unarmed Security Guard immediately.

If denied, you will receive a written notification by mail.
